meson press publishes experimental, innovative, multi-format open access books on digital cultures and networked media. Our publications challenge contemporary theories and advance key debates in the humanities today. We combine high quality publications ensured by a thorough peer-review with the exploration of new forms and formats of Open Access books. Even though the scholarly book is changing in the age of digital media, we strongly believe in the many virtues of its format for academic communication.
meson press has published more than 50 books, ranging from traditional long-form monographs and collected volumes to short-format books.

meson press is an open access press that publishes research on digital cultures and networked media. Their publications challenge contemporary theories and advance key debates in the humanities today. The authors at meson press come from different academic backgrounds such as media studies, science and technology studies, philosophy of technology, etc. They are especially interested in publishing works that contribute to the broad array of critical studies both theoretically and empirically.
We are a founding member of ScholarLed, a consortium of Open Access Presses bringing together a group of scholar-led academic book publishers, and a member of the Radical Open Access Collective.
Founded with the aim of promoting Open Access, meson press has the form of a registered cooperative under German law. meson press is a cooperative that publishes experimental, innovative, multi-format open access books. It was initiated and currently run by Mercedes Bunz, Marcus Burkhardt and Andreas Kirchner, and grew out of the Hybrid Publishing Lab, Leuphana University of Lüneburg. Organised as a cooperative, meson press is open for everybody to take part and contribute to the realisation of our mission.
