Situated within Africa’s leading university, the University of Cape Town, the press is a scholar-led, non-commercial publisher committed to social justice by making scholarly work widely accessible and discoverable. While its publications primarily focus on the humanities, UCT Press also welcomes interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarship in the form of monographs and edited collections that offer new insights from African perspectives.

UCT Press applies Book Processing Charges (BPCs) solely to cover the costs associated with the production of open access books. These charges do not include expenses related to marketing activities, such as book launches, nor does UCT Press apply any mark-up to generate profit.
Recognising that reliance on BPCs is not a sustainable long-term model for open access publishing, additional funding will be used to support the publication of works by non-UCT authors, enhance metadata management, and strengthen the marketing and visibility of the Press.
